I think the companies see an opportunity to get out of paying pensions they have promised to the employees who work for X years. Many work for low pay trusting the pension the company promises will be paid as promised. Many companies plan on not honoring the pensions in many ways. This is the easiest money grab ever. Take the jab, or we don't pay you your promised pension the rest of your life. Take it, and we may still not have to pay you that pension because you may die. Win Win for a company.
