Top eject and no good way to mount a scope. Winchester came out with the AE in later yrs,....I still consider those to be 'new' ones but that was probably 40trs ago. AE stands for 'Angle Eject'. Still don't know if that's a 'good' way to mount a scope but at least it can be done. Someone knowing much more about the things than me will be along shortly,....probably someone in the western time zone,...currently in the Oregon region.

I've never owned or shot a 94. Never liked the things. Always seemed like a klunky contraption of a lever gun but not quite up to 'cool' klunky like a '95.
